The Afghans are a remarkable people. Afghanistan produces 75% of the
world's heroin in their spare time. Yet they manage to feed themselves
in a long drought, and this in spite of their country having been
trashed out as the side effect of a CIA-sponsored war with the Soviets
(the CIA was channeling money there even before the Soviets came in).

Billions of dollars in CIA money in the 1980's created the Taliban out
of the most radical and militant and authoritarian elements of the
Mujahedeen -- bin Laden being a blue ribbon example. Since we knew they
oppressed women all the while we were bankrolling them, (this year even
giving the Taliban $43 million not to grow opium poppies) -- we have
dearly bought and paid for the Taliban's oppression of women with your
US tax dollars!

In between the US bombing runs to bring them freedom and make us safe
from terrism, lets trying bribing their clerics not to oppress women and
see if that works.

You get what you pay for, and everything is for sale; this war is about
religion and that is ours. -- Roger
