When someone posts to agl@pairlist.net from an
address that the maillist server doesnt recognize,
the server automatically sends back a message
that it didnt accept the post.

That didnt happen in your case, did it?

If you didnt receive such a message, that shows
that the email was not successfully sent from 
your end of the connection which sometimes happens.
therefore no reason to jump to conclusions
