natural disaster, local nut, international terrorist ... infrastructure is
fragile and consequences compound ... witness any wreck on the "I" during
rush hour ... it shuts or slows everything down for miles. Everyone should
have supplies to live free of it for 1-3 weeks.

Miami has been totally gridlocked by go-slow truckers during Elian; loss of
chunks power grid from wildfires in the Everglades;  ... and Hurricane
Andrew ... the horror of Miami without traffic signals! Many, whose homes
survived didn't have electricity for 2-3 months ... some relied on
electrically-pumped well water (even though urban). The phones still worked
and we blessed Bell for underground lines.
