Mike,
Well thought out. I agree. Seems to me that the longer
a population is poor and humiliated the more they
fantasize (maybe the hashish aids to this condition).
I'll never forget the Alhambra in Spain, perhaps the
most outstanding example of Arab (Moor) fantasy. For
sheer visual delights it has few peers.

With all the openings at their disposal, the Democrats
should waltz into the White House in 2004. But they
could also blow it, nominate some Goresque ninny
selected by the corporations who treats Bush and gang
politely and gets rolled over by the hate networks.

Gosh, won't it be great when all the Iraqis see the light,
drop their silly, uncool muslim beliefs and get on the
Jesus train. The Shiite and Sunni women will throw away
their veils, start wearing Nike sport outfits and bikinis,
drive Chevy mini-vans, have coffee claches and lingerie
fashion shows, drive their kids to soccer practice and
stop at the local McDonald's on the way home to buy
dinner. It'll be wonderful, Phoenix on the Euphrates,
lots of lawns and golf clubs. Heck, they may even
qualify for a professional football franchise, the
Bagdad Buffaloes. They will be so grateful to President
Bush that big statues of him will spring up all over
the country, especially in Bagdad where he is so popular.
Why, some of them will probably campaign on his behalf
in 2004. The new Iraq, envy of the Arab world. Makes
me proud to be an American, land of the great liberator.

BTW, has anyone heard a recent casualty count? Couple
of weeks ago 300 hundred Americans were either dead,
wounded, or imprisoned. That was before the taking of
Baghdad. I haven't heard of an updated count since then.
Maybe I should try to tune in Al-azeera or whatever
they call the Arab channel.
