Dear Joe,

A mailing from Brooklyn College alerted me to your
recent book of poetry.

I have read and reread the poems with much respective
pleasure. I even hunted down a copy of Ivan Gold's
short story which I hadn't read in 40 years. I had
forgotten the part about you having total recall
which I had some direct experience of.

I would hope to live to see another florilegium of
your poems published. It might not be possible for
you to poeticize your middle years but then again it
might be.

As to the text of that cardboard placard in store
windows in our youth during WW II, I remember it
slightly differently: Legislation requires that all
illumination be extinguished in these premises...

I tried researching the exact text on the Internet
but drew a blank.

Best,

Mike Eisenstadt
