Staten Island ferry thoughts

many times i have stood at the front of the Staten
Island ferry as it docked. it comes in at a good clip
and every time one waits with some trepidation for
the moment when the engine is put full aback which
almost stops the boat dead in the water as she gently
careers off the wooden pilings left and right and
fetches up to the landing with a barely perceptable
bump.

if the driver of the boat passes out just before the
moment for putting the engine full aback then
passengers and crew are in deep doodoo that's for
sure.

smaller toll then when the Egypt Air pilot facing
forced retirement and with a host of personal and family
problems took the controls of an EA airliner, locked
the cockpit door and dove the craft into the sea
repeating all the while I commend myself to Allah.
