Greenspan's remarks yesterday were so egregious that
the possibility arises that he means to sabotage Bush's
campaign. It certainly seems like many voters will
have a pang of fear as they confront the disappearance
or diminution of their future Social Security payments.
If they vote their pocketbook, which they usually do,
they will vote for the candidate who will reinstate
a higher tax rate on the wealthy. How could they not?
It is hard to believe that he would NOT anticipate
that his remarks would catch folks' attention in this
regard.
Only if he lives to write his memoirs will we find
out what he was really up to. Or perhaps his widow
to be, Andrea Mitchell the NBC reporter, will write
hers.
