At the moment I have nine count 'em nine motorcycles, through a series of
strange and wondrous accidents. The photo is me on a 1991 Yamaha TZ250, a
pukka full-race 70hp. twin that will do about 140mph on a good cool day.
I have a load of Japanese sport bikes, mostly from the 1980s and all but
one two-strokes. Love those strokers.
Yep I raced the Isle of Man Senior TT race (world's most dangerous,
allegedly), the Japan Grand Prix, all around California and even down in
Galveston, where you didn't dare step on the tar between the concrete
slabs or you wouldn't get your foot loose. It was HOT.
Also raced in the 1966 Aqua Festival in Austin, throwing down the road a
lovely Yamaha TD-1B that Jack O'Leary had lent me. His son still has the
Yamaha dealership I'm pretty sure.
Speed: it's better than sex, better than drugs, a bit like the love for
combat: a mixture of animal pleasure and absolute human terror.
