Kissinger and other studs and shedding bitter tears

We once knew a woman (surgeon) in SF who was being "courted" by Alan
Greenspan. This was somewhere in the late Seventies. She was a friend of a
friend; we all went sailing together in the SF Bay on the 46' Columbia that
Frances Maye's husband, Frank King co-owned with a physicist who had made
lot of money working for, as I recall, Lawerence Livermore/Weapons Labs.
The lady in question was his squeeze for awhile. She looked like someone
who stepped on the boat directly off the cover of Vogue or Cosmo. In other
words, very attractive to the Celebrity Set. However, she was very, vey
smart. Smart enough not to marry Greenspan, certainly. It was sometime
after this that he hooked up with Andrea Mitchell. (who is/was no where near
as attractive.)

I worked with an architect in Austin (who will go un-named) whose daughter
once asked him if she...or they...were actually Jewish. He said..uh, yes,
we are. This came as a bit of a shock to her as it was her first indication
of same. Well, I guess being Jewish in San Antonio in the Forties and
Fifties was viewed as risky by some. Tres wierd.

Fundamentally, there are several cultures in the US. You see this situation
amplified in major metro areas like LA, NY and SF although it was certainly
true in Texas and still is I guess; to wit, the male American is supposed to
"signify" his success in our (so-called) Culture by having a suitably nubile
thing (less likely male than female) on his arm. Thus showing in some
Neanderthal way (to other men, naturally ) that he is both a successful
business man and a real stud. How droll. The really pathetic thing is how
f****g unaware of this most of these guys are. As in Totally Clueless.
Well, "sensitivity" is not a word commonly found in well
dressed/shod/coiffured Board Rooms across America. Other than, of course,
to the Bottom Line. (Oh, my is that an unintended double entendre. Well,
mercy lil ole me!)
