Let us not forget just how it was that the nation state of Israel was
brought about.  There are still British families who remember their lost
sons from that period.  Having stated that, I believe that Israel has a
right to exist, further that Palestinian poverty has been perpetuated by
ultra-conservative, anti-Jewish, Islamic elements in the ME who have thought
that having them there gave them a good PR case.  The unfortunate
Palestinians became perpetual pawns in this sordid game.  On the other hand,
the Likkud (sp?) and its near-sighted and morally vacant "settlement
policies" have only made the situation worse.  Sharon is better than many
past Israeli PMs, although the "wall" is Stalinist by any definition.  We
have the same problems in the US where the "government" (ie. short-term
cadre of election winners + their business base (read: arms manufacturers))
always wants to add cops to solve poverty problems.  After all, there is no
where the kind of profits to be made by creating an economic infrastructure
that would utilize the (willing) labor of the poor, while
guns/helicopters/fences/etc. ad nauseum can make political contributors and
their lobby-whores a great deal of money.  Cops are here to protect the Rich
from the Poor.  Could this be an explanation of why the US has the world's
largest prison population?  Not to forget state sponsored killings?

The hypocricy of the Ruling Classes is nauseating beyond measure.  May they
all come back as cockroaches.
