In fact, he played until he was 49.  The Chicago Bears let him go because he was too old when he was in his thirties.  So, he went to the Oilers in the new AFL.  One of the greatest games I ever saw was Oilers versus the Dallas Texans (now the KC Chiefs) at old Jepessen Stadium at U of H for the AFL championship in 1962 or '63.  The Oilers let him go in the 'mid '60s because he was too old.  So, then he went to the Raiders and QB'd the team for a couple of years before becoming full time kicker.  When he was 46 or 47, Kenny Stabler and the backup QB both went down with injuries, and Blanda was back at QB for the rest of the season.  Won half a dozen games if I remember correctly.  Names and dates subject to the vagaries of memory. Inspirational old guy.
