>The month of March is the Museum's one year anniversary...and we're
celebrating with a very special exhibit displaying information/materials
regarding Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators. Listed below are the
major activities, beginning on March 12th and running through SXSW.
>
>March 12th Museum celebration of the opening of the Roky
Erickson/13th Floor Elevators retrospective exhibit that will feature
photographs, posters, paintings, record albums, 45s, hand written lyric
sheets, memorabilia and musical instruments used by the band members. A
brochure has been produced with "liner notes" by Margaret Moser
(thanks Margaret). Refreshments will be served...there might be music and
donations are gratefully accepted. Everything begins at...well....you know:
7:09 pm
>
>March 16th Chronicle Music Awards....we'll be there with a
display promoting the Museum, the Elevators exhibit and the TrustRoky event
on the 18th, plus we'll have information there about Flatstock.
>
>MARCH 18 & 19 FREE!! Flatstock 6 This is a
convention of gig poster artists from around the nation who gather during
SXSW. The event is held at the Austin Convention Center and will be held on
Friday March 18th and Saturday March 19th. Open noon to 6pm and the
admission is free. What a great opportunity (for free!) to see the poster
artists in America who are the front runners in the gig poster arena. The
Armadillo Artist will be hosting a panel discussion on March 18th at 2pm:
Gig Posters: Where Did They Come From and Where Are They Going?" This
panel discussion will cover music posters from 1840 to 2005 and beyond,
including how postering for music events in Texas got started and how the
genre itself progressed through time to present day. Ever wondered about
the Austin/San Francisco poster connection? Find out from Jim Franklin how
he came to use the armadillo as an icon in his art...talk with Jack Jackson
about the early days of the Family Dog Poster Company...ask Bill Narum
questions about postering for ZZ Top and quiz Henry Gonzalez about moving
between the mediums of murals and posters.
>
>March 18th At the Museum, starting at 7:09pm is the big

Jon Sanchez and Paul Etheridge will perform. Suggested donation is $5 at
the door. Refreshments will be served. Roky says he'll be there!
