I don't think you ever suggested that religion caused as many deaths as the black plague, explicity, any way. That would be as much as three quarters of the world population.

  The Catskills is where it grew from seed. Often the jokes were at the "expense" of the mother in law. The "greats" were mostly Jewish, too. Humor is often subtly agressive, and then "out there" agressive as the Danish toons proved. Humor is found in jabs at any moving target. Like, "Don' make no fun 'bout ma religion."
   
  In my library visit here at RBJ I found a book that made me think of you. "Warriors of God" by James Reston, Jr. He attests to all you've written about religion causing more deaths than the black plague.  I take liberty with your metaphor.

Most of the best humor in this country came from Liberal and Reformed Jews in NYC and environments.  They could look at themselves and laugh, but without bitterness or anger in most cases.

  I wondered what all the brouhaha was over, and American media is too pussyfooted to reprint them here. That's what's wrong with the Muslim world--they have no sense of humor. All this should inspire Igor. Cartoons are not just for Sunday papers any more, they've become certified Weapons of Mass Distraction.
