Jon,

Yes, many are eager to practice their English, them
what have some Englist. many have no English. cops on the
street do not speak English.

Actually i have often left passport at the apartment
but i thought i would test the system by asking a cop.
I had noticed the police substation so i figured id go
in and ask. when wearing jeans and a t-shirt where is one
supposed to put the passport?

Of course if i was going to ask them, i made sure i
had the passport with me because cops will be cops.
and sure enough, the question prompted the flic to
ask if i actually had a passport. i said yes and split.
he didnt ask to see it.

according to a friend who has lived in Paris for 30
years, if you are stopped and do NOT have your
passport you will be detained until someone goes
and gets your passport.

Mike
