[AGL] Evil is as Evil does

Why don't we just drop the word "marriage" as that seems to incur so much rancor and just use the phrase "legal union" or perhaps "civil union". Honor and I were married in a ceremony in District Judge Herman Jones chambers and not a church. Our choice. Dignified ceremony. (And as it was his first, the good Judge waived his fee. He was really a nice person. Another reason why he was chosen, btw.)

The Legal/Civil Union would encompass every single right/entitlement/tax break/benefit/etc. etc. that exists for heterosexual relationships, including divorce, adoption, paying the bills and making the mortgage payment.

But then those who are the "official practitioners" of "government" are usually people who are either fabulously wealthy and are playing at Pol for the CV benefit or hopeless inept at anything other than rousing the baser instincts of the milling herd. Consequently, one group considers issues of "taste" and the other group worries about getting re-elected so they can avoid honest labor. Either way....slam dunk social issues like Women's Rights and Civil Unions

Finally, te Government has NO BUSINESS in our bedrooms. I just found some marvelous writing by Justice Brandeis which I will copy and post later. These are, I think, Must Reading for anyone who desires to understand the philosophical/ethical principles embodied in our Constitution. He was the Anti-Rehnquest.

Wow! This guy sure knows how to call it like he sees it. I admit that I was never fond of the idea of "gay marriage," though I now have nothing against it. I felt that laws regarding marriage were instituted to protect women by definition. If gay men, or half of them, want the protection given women, who am I to deny them protection that comes with feigning womanhood. I remember in my own marriage how both of us longed to have a "wife"--read someone to do the housework, laundry, food purchasing, preparation and cleanup, attend to the yard, home repairs, auto maintenance, mending clothes, raising the children and paying the bills, for FREE.
A wifetime of this, under Texas law, entitles a married woman to claim half of all community property. No wonder guys find the female role so appealing, even if it's only protected with the abstraction of law.
The law ain't always what it is cracked up to be. I see gay marriage as an attorney-enabling-act, since such marriages all too often do end up in spats that require $10,000 divorce actions just like with the heteromarried.
Best,
Frances

Gay Marriage Is Still Evil?
Because the funny thing is, despite all the frantic state bans, no one can really say why
By Mark Morford
Which reminds me, I still have yet to hear it.
Despite all the right-wing puling, all the Bible-humping and the anti-gay marriage campaigning in all those states that just banned it and how everyone in the nation has apparently been deeply contemplating what hot gay sex must really be like because, oh my God, it sure has been in the news a lot lately (thanks, Pastor Ted!), I still, as of this writing, to this very day, I still have yet to hear a single coherent and comprehensive explanation from the nation's homophobes as to what, exactly, is so wrong about gay love.
Oh, make no mistake, I've heard the theories. I have plenty of hissing, puerile, "fag"-laden hate mail. I've heard the half-baked notions regarding "debauched" morality, the necessity of procreation, the pseudoscientific studies claiming kids are in danger of being "recruited," the quivery references to bitterly homophobic interpretations of biblical passages that somehow "prove" that gay love is immoral, unethical, dangerous. It's all just a bit cute, in a grossly ignorant sort of way.
And yet, one by one, each and every one of these silly ideas has been rather effortlessly disproved, blown to spiritual or intellectual smithereens, discredited to death and/or laughed into oblivion much the way a true scientist shoots wine through his nose at the mention of creationism. ...
