[AGL] More on Remembring Names

I read somewhere a long time ago that the number of synapses decreases with age. Synapses are the brain's transmitter circuits, you need them to make the connection between the new idea and the data base where your memory is stored. So, if the synapses decrease in number then your new idea has to wait in line for the next available synapse before it can retrieve data from the database.
A few years ago I added L-Phenylalanine to my daily supplement menu. It is supposed to help the body synthesize the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. Does it work? I guess so. My memory is hardly flawless but it works more often than not, altho sometimes it takes awhile...
BTW Jeff, what was that airline to Brazil you told me about years ago? And do you know of an airline that has good rates to Lima, Peru?

Subject: [AGL] More on Remembring Names
Gang,
I told an old friend that I was worried that I couldn't remember names very well. Or they would pop in my mind several hours after I needed them. Always socially embarassing particularly when you can visualize all the stories and times you shared. My firend said,
"Don't worry Jeff. You couldn't remember names when you were 20."
What puzzles me is how this actually functions? Most the the research purports that an active brain doesn't dminish. An active mind generates new synapses and memories to the very end ...well as long as oxygen is getting to the noggin.
Do we merely not remember names becuase there is such a vast amount of data in our hard drives as we age and like a old computer retrival takes longer?..or is it something else? Exercise or hyperbaric chambers which really get oxygenated blood to the brain seems to boost memory.
But I wander if any of you have more scientific info on why we can't recall?
Thanks,
Jeff

Yes she was. Lovely. Sometimes she introduced herself as Terrell
Maverick Webb, so everyone would know she had TWO famous husbands.
