Thanks Gerry for the stories.

Fletcher as you say was no manager. I remember the cheap greasy
pork chops Eddie served. But I don't think the place came into its
own until Fletch & Lopez were running it and the Friday night scene
became huge (followed usually by a party at Fletch & Libby's place
on W. 28th street). Although, come to think of it, I remember
Fletcher fallen asleep at one of his parties and Stanley Walker
nudging him awake saying "Fletcher, get a job."

After Libby died and Fletcher lost the house in West Lake
Hills, Ann Richards then governor gave him a job running the
xerox machines in the basement of one of the state office
building.

Actually the West Lake Hills house was Ralph White's house
before he retired and moved to the house he built on Lake Travis.
Libby's father traded the 713 E 6th street property for the house.
That was where he had built a store and a cute 2 floor studio
apartment in the back for Libby when she was going to
UT. Fletcher & Libby lived there but when Lily was born
they needed more space.

My roommate & I lived in that studio later on for a few years.
Nice but noisy. Stanley Walker had built a tiny staircase in
a closet to get to the roof but it had been torn out when we
rented it.

In recent years, Fletcher came down with some serious
illnesses and his dear friend Bill Pratt became his caretaker.
Surprising that he was carried off by a car accident. Does
anyone know if he was driving?

One of the last times I saw Fletcher was at one of Henry
Holman's birthday parties at the Saengerunde. Stanley
Walker was haranging him and I asked if Stanley was bothering
him. No he said he just reminds me of someone I used
to know.
