I didn't remember that 9/11 is the anniversary of hurricane Carla, an approimately Cat 4 that hit my hometown Freeport in 1961. Wiped out my childhood home and neighborhood.Ike seems to be taking a similar track.  I believe the eye of Carla came across Matagorda Bay. We evacuated to Victoria and the eye came right over us on its' way to Austin.

We are hunkering down, probably by tomorrow night will have yard here cleaned up and ready for high winds.  Coastal communites, including Freeport and west end of Galveston are under mandatory evacuation.  Traffic through Houston freeways is already problematic - so I willl leave extra early for work tomorrow morning.

Farmer Ken from our place near Shiner is concerned.  He said the storm is projected to move through east of San Antonio after landfall, High winds likely to cause a lot of tree damage and heavy, heavy rain.  Would be fun to ride the storm out in the country. But, I won't go out there because the 3 miles of gravel road off 90A to the place will likely be washed out and not passable for who knows how long. So we're 'sheltering in place' here in Houston.

They are predicting 8-10' tides in Galveston Bay at this time. Who knows, Ike could veer off to Mexico by tomorrow night.
