not literary license at all!
i've watched him in full paroxysm of his madness - his
MO is to move ritually from one corner to the other
to the other to the other and then back to the first of
the intersection- usually at Congress and Sixth street,
always giving due obeance to the cardinal points of the
compass.
all the while, he is scrutinizing the traffic, sometimes
directing the driver to advance or turn as the car
seems to be about to do,
in selected cases, depending apparently on his take
on the driver, he slowly points his finger and curling
his finger upwards so as to get ahold of it, he slowly pulls the
soul out of the driver's body (i write "soul" for whatever
the Indian calls it), then turns his arm towards the
ritually correct compass direction and flings whatever he
thinks he has abstracted from the driver, flings it with
some velocity into the empyrean - this has to be seen
to be appreciated (if appreciated is the right word)
i doubt he's prepared to submit himself to interview.
his body language in the video clip is somewhat
less formulaic and more playful than usual, more like
he was dancing, neat little sidesteps. he had a routine
of shaking the prayer device in the correct direction
but he wasnt doing it while i was video-ing him. the
different demeanor may have something to do with
him wearing a t-shirt instead of his usual bared
chest
