Congratulations on 50 years!
On that day I had decided to go my job instead of taking the day off. Right before he started shooting I stepped on a bus on the drag near the bookstore. My job was a summer job as a long distance operator for the Telephone company. When I got there the switchboard was lit up with people calling in about the shooting. At first I said there couldn't be shooting on the Drag I had just left there
I might be wrong but his first victims were shot on the Drag where the bookstore stood. Then we learned his wife had been found murdered she also worked at the Telephone company. She had been stabbed and I believe he shot his mother. He was a real loser

50 years just rolled by. wife Madelon & i just celebrated our 50th wedding
anniversary July 5. we were on our honeymoon in Italy when Whitman
shootings took place - big headlines in the Italian newspapers: folle
ex-Marine tue 16 alla Austin Texas or something like that. we were
amazed.
other news from UT campus. Joe Sosa librarian at the Classics Library
showed me the red button next to his desk. press it and cops show
up pronto. he said he has been instructed to call security if he sees
a gun being carried openly.
