A relatively easy way to accurately calculate % black vs. % white on a photo of a Jacob is to overlay a relatively fine transparent grid (like graph paper) on the photo. Then just count the white squares and the black squares, sum them and divide white by the sum or black by the sum. The finer the grid the more accurate the calculation. There are even photogrametric programs that will do it automatically, the grid is the poor shepherds easy solution.

Do this for both sides then average the calculated results for a less than subjective Black/white ratio.

BTW, on this photo, using a relatively coarse grid I calculated about 11% white and 89 % black. What her side look like?
