I agree that training (for the dog and for the shepherd) is essential for 
using a dog to herd Jacobs...or any sheep, really.  And I also feel that you 
have to find a dog with the genetic makeup to be a good herding animal.  They 
can save you many frustrating hours of running around a field, red-faced and 
hoarse!
