John,

Welcome to Jacob Sheep. I have heard incidental reports of people trying to milk these sheep. They are NOT a dairy sheep and I would think they would need heavy supplementation to get any sort of milk production out of them. Lambs tend to take more from their moms at about a month of age than at any other time. With that thought in mind, I am feeding twin lambs whose mother up and died on them. I am going through about 7-8 cups of formula per day at the MOST for them now---and this is their high intake so far. I would think it would be slacking off somewhat past this point. Ewes tend to get pretty gaunt looking along about this time when they are producing that much milk for their babies, depending on where they are in the sheep heirarchy food chain. If you are asking a personal opinion, I would think it not in the best interest of your sheep to be trying to milk her for either her sake or her lambs' sake.

Mary Ellen---with 11 rams and 26 ewes....
