Trial and error. I use what works. Quite often it's been the last resort when the Rx fails, so I don't wait now, I go for that first.
Tea Tree Oil has some pretty potent antibacterial ingredients that have been isolated, chemically analysed and found to be most efficacious. Most modern disinfectants are purified forms of some tree resin or other. What raises Tee Tree Oil above others is its unique tendency to change, just a slight bit, over the years, which seems to prevent resistance to its "charms" (from the POV of what attacks the plant, which is of course its intended purpose).
Herbalism, done properly, is perfectly scientific. I use a herbal wormer too, and it works.
I've had my chains rattled in the past, but I'm way over it:)

Hi,
Can anybody explain ON A CHEMICAL/SCIENTIFIC basis, what the difference is in using a manufactured antibacterial versus using a product like tea tree oil? I see people every day that self-medicate themselves with herbals and dirt (yes, I did say "dirt") and think that is just wonderful, but are scared to death to do what their doctor has recommended.....when there is NO control whatsoever other than faith in the herbal preparation, and there have been years and hundreds of carefully controlled studies proving relative safety of the doctor's suggestions...... I guess it just amazes me on a daily basis.
I also use herbals under specific circumstances, so I am not poo-pooing them.....but I am asking very seriously for an explanation not founded in purely a "nature has got to be best" answer.
