    How far are you from UC Davies?  From what I understand they have a 
impressive vet. school there.  Here in Utah we can contact the State 
Vet. and they will perform an autopsy and let you know what the animal 
died from, at a reasonable cost.  But know if your animal dies from 
something that is bad, they can come in and quarantine your farm.
    Sorry for your loss.  It is amazing how those little ones can break 
your heart.
