[Jacob-list] guard dogs/family dogs/seasonal breeding question

I have a boxer we picked up as an older puppy at the
pound. She's the sweetest family dog, yet will come
with me to barn, instinctively round up sheep to come
and eat, "down" once she has them in place, and look
to me for guidance. She doesn't bother the chickens,
either, but sure does like to chase out cats! When she
"catches" the cat, she licks it until it's wet!
Several of the cats play a kind of tag with her. Don't
know if this is a breed trait or not?

Neal (and other NC Jacob raisers) -- it's been a while
since I've had seasonal breeding sheep. When will my
Jacob ewes start to cycle here in NC? The borders were
MUCH different. I'd like to lamb in March, is this
feasible? February is SO sleety and cold up near the
VA border. My new ram will arrive later this month.
He'll be separated for two weeks, then introduced to
"his" ladies in mid-September. Should I wait longer?
