As I understand it, a vaccine teaches the immune system to recognize a  
specific virus/bacteria and develop antibodies (specific defenses) against  it.  I 
suppose that cattle colostrum may cause the sheep to make antibodies  against 
cattle colostrum (for whatever tha's worth), but it probably also  stimulates 
the sheep's more general defenses (white blood count, etc.).

PS  For whatever it's worth (and please don't get too grossed out), we  
delved into our ethnic heritage and found recipes for colostrum.  We eat  our cow 
colostrum in the form of colostrum ("beesting")  pudding.
