Subject: [Jacob-list] De-horning
"Has anyone ever had naturally polled Jacobs from 4 horned parents ?"
We have not had "polled" Jacob sheep. According to the best definition we
can find, "polled" is absence of horns in both sexes. We have however, had
several sex-linked hornless ewes. We have not registered them, and exclude
them from the purebred flock. They will produce normally horned ram lambs
( sometimes even if bred to a polled ram), but continue to produce hornless
ewe lambs. Either is undesirable in the purebred flock, but they are pretty
interesting.
