I think WE have to be the good people fighting this and not assume that 
someone else is the good people.  Remember, was it FDR?: All that is 
necessary for evil to thrive is for good men (sic) to do nothing.  I don't 
fully understand what's going on and have a festival tomorrow, so can't get 
to studying til next week, but that's part of the problem: to make 
intelligent decisions, you have to check out the big picture and that takes 
time.  Most people don't seem to have the time to do the studying necessary 
to make INFORMED decisions, so just decide on the basis of some one or 
another telling them this is good or bad.
