[Jacob-list] snakebite

Last week I was feeding the sheep and noticed the
chickens I keep with them (to keep down the bugs),
were pecking and jumping around something.  When I got
closer I saw a baby rattler.  Unfortunately Boudicca
keeps her eye on me and when I move toward the chicken
she thinks there may be chicken food on the ground to
steal and despite my yelling she  runs over with her
head down to see what the chicken are pecking at.  The
snake bit her nose and she jumped sky high.  We
watched her for several days but aside from one eye
being half closed for awhile there were no lasting
effects.  I think it was because it was so little. 
However, after it bit Boudicca, I quickly got over my
aversion to killing snakes and dispatched it then and
there.  It was amazing how closely it matched the oak
leaves it was in....I wonder how many snakes I have
just walked by.
