[Jacob-list] Sharing rams.

I would talk to the vet that is going to do the
voluntary program inspection on your farm and ask them
what the rules would be in your state and location. 
As I understand it there is no problem of going from a
flock that has been in the voluntary program longer to
a flock that has been in a shorter time.  So if you
are going to share a ram, the flock with the most
years in the voluntary program would get it first and
then rotate down to the newer voluntary flock and then
to the flock that is not on the voluntary program. 
That is the advantage of being on the voluntary
program for awhile...you can send/sell your sheep to
any flock that is at the same or lesser years in the
program.  It is true that they are less strict now in
the program...initially I got knocked back for an
outside ram but I think that it is now as Robin said
that they figure the ram will be in the flock so short
a time and it is passed by birthing ewes that they are
less strict about the rams. I would also make sure
that the ram then came from a flock where he is not
allowed to stay with the ewes except at breeding
season.  Some people leave their rams in all the time.
 Just make sure the vet you will deal with is of this
same understanding ;-).   Victoria
