[Jacob-list] Removing ear tags.

The Calif. State vet has had me keep the ear tags
from the former owners , out of state or not, so they
could trace to that flock. I am to put my ear tag on
the other ear. So some of my girls look like they
have unmatching earrings. I was told that once an ear
tag goes in, it must not be removed..... for tracing
purposes...cannot imagine the blood flow from removing
these tags with the way ours are put in. The reason I
got my own tags from Premier was that they can be read
without catching each sheep and it has more air flow
between the 2 parts so I have never had an infection
or one pull out. If the only purpose of these ugly
tags is to trace the sheep from origin, why would they
tell you to remove any of the tags? I am getting
pretty good at getting the tags in quickly so the
trauma is minimal but in my opinion the sheep would
truly look more primitive without all the ear gear.
