When I say "expression" I'm talking about the primary expression of the  
allele rather than the secondary (or tertiary) expression that we often talk  
about.  The expression of the dilute allele is primarily to make the  
melanin clump, which secondarily causes what we human observers see as a color  
change--and the color change may differ between species and original  color.
