I love to overdye blended gray Jacob wool. The white strands pick up more
color and the black/gray strands give it a wonderful richness.  Take the
plunge (literally) and play around a bit.  I especially like to use a medium
blue dye which turns out sort of like denim.  I've also done light/med red
dye onto blended gray wool, which turns out more of a pink to purplish
color.  Lovely!! Be warned however, it is highly addictive...

As an aside, don't be afraid to use the "plain" gray.  I made a cable knit
cardigan out of some of mine and I really like it-  not at all plain or
boring.

Anybody have experience with Earthhues Dyes and Jacob wool?  I had several
skeins of gray wool from my lilac ewe.  Some skeins were pure gray and
others were mixed strands of white and gray.  Rather than knit an ugly gray
shawl, I wanted some to add some color.   I took the wool to a local dyeing
clinic run by some members of our wool group.  If lilac means blue-gray
then the cochineal dye will result in a pretty reddish-purple color.  I
need some gray from another breed of sheep to compare.  We also did Indigo
dyeing.  Gorgeous shades of blue depending on how many dips are done in the
dye pot.  I will have a beautiful shawl with a light blue border and deeper
shades of purple and crimson red plus lighter shades of red in the interior
of the shawl.  I was wondering if anyone has tips on dyeing Jacob wool or
what have you dyed and how did it turn out?
