Try soaking it with epsom salts several times a day. Sounds like he has
what the old timers  called proud flesh. I always tried scrubbing the wound
pretty good  to get all the crustyness off and then a good soak with cloth
dipped in a strong solution of the epsom salts It was my go too after the
vets diagnosis didn't work Used it on horses and goats!
