We leave ours out 24/7 year round. The only time they come into the
barn is our occasional reminder that there are yummy things in the
barn and it's a good idea to come running when we invite you in, or
on the rare occasion that a ewe has some trouble with lambing or
nursing, or we have triplets and are concerned about whether all
three are getting what they need. Then we watch or have our life
simplified by having them near by for supplemental feeding.
We have neither dog nor llama nor donkey. We do have open fields with
more open land before the wooded areas. I think this helps. Plus we
put bells on the ewes. We've never had predator trouble with the
sheep though we've certainly had fox and hawk and fisher cat and who
knows what else taking small and large fowl.
