[Jacob-list] Ear sores

I recall two cases of ewes that twitched their ears against their lateral
horns until the ears were sore and inflamed.  Both cases occurred when we
lived in California and during the summer.  Like Linda, for one ewe I
removed her ear tag, and the problem went away.  For the other ewe, I
removed a bit of the ewe's lateral horn to a length that the ear twitched
beneath, not against, the horn; again, the problem went away.  The problem
did not recur in subsequent seasons for either ewe.

Has anyone ever had a sheep that twitched her/his ear so much hitting the
horns that it developed a sore? The bugs must be worse this year as I found
this to be happening with a ewe that is 3 years old and this didn't happen
last year. I sprayed it and wrapped it before I left for vacation but I
doubt the wrap will last. Any suggestions?
