I think your vibration on acceleration is more likely to be the rear (or
front) flex disk. These deteriorate with time and miles and shred away.
10 seconds on the lift is all it should take to find out. Also, this
isn't usually caused by this, but once I had an rpm/level of throttle
specific vibration that went away with a tire rebalancing. As far as
tranny service, I've always heard/believed it's best to do it according
to the service intervals (which I think is 60k miles for this car) or if
the fluid is lifetime then every 75k miles. The only time I've heard
that it's best to leave the tranny alone is if it has over 100k miles on
it and has never been serviced. Oh, and when you do the tranny fluid
make sure to do the torque convertor.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Vibration on acceleration and tranny servicing
My 1987 560SEC has developed a vibration on acceleration - about=20
1300-1700rpm in 2nd it vibrates through the drive train and I can feel
it=20
through the body of the car. Outside this range all seems perfectly
normal.=20
Gear changes are still smooth, although when cold it seems to take a
while=20
to cycle between D and R.
One mech didn't really look and said the tranny was stuffed - the same
guy=20
told me that 90k (miles) ago - so I'm not sure he knows, or he is trying
to=20
scam a tranny repair for one of his buddies - any thoughts ?
Also, there seems to be 2 camps on transmission servicing - those who
say do=20
it regularly - fluid, filers etc. And then those who say never touch it=20
(especially not fluid changes) unless there is a problem......what is
the=20
view held here ?=20
