I have suffered, and, cured both the problem you mention in your post

<vibration on acceleration - about 1300-1700rpm in 2nd>

In my case this was due to worn out universal joints on the drive shaft. =
On most other cars the universal joints can be replaced. However, not on =
our cars. I went through the usual exercise of replacing the centre =
bearing, rubber elements in the drive shaft and then finally replaced =
the entire drive shaft. Presto the problem was gone.

<when cold it seems to take a while to cycle between D and R>

The long delay in engaging "D" or "R" from neutral is indicative of a =
worn out transmission. In my case the problem was cured after a =
transmission overhaul. Everything was replaced with the exception of the =
valve body. That was omitted basically due to the high cost of the part. =
However as I recall, my mechanic did take it apart and overhaul it. This =
fellow knows what he is doing when it comes to MB transmissions. Usually =
it is recommended to replace the valve body as a whole.

Hope this helps. You may also want to search the archives on these =
subjects
