I never found anywhere on Kauai. The only way to fly in Kauai was with =
other
people on scenic flightseeing charters. Much more costly than renting =
from a
school and you don't get to drive!
Maui and Oahu both have flying schools - the same company I think. I was
only in Oahu for three days so the opportunity to mix it with 747s at =
HNI
International didn't arise :-)
Rental costs are higher than other parts of the US I've flown in =
(California
and Colorado) but still beat the costs in the UK. When we all moan about =
the
cost of car fuel - 100LL avgas in the UK is around the =A31 an imperial =
gallon
and rising as demand eases and pollution regulation tightens.

I too have the other passion of flying. Did you ever get off of the
ground or was it cost prohibitive? I heard it is VERY expensive there.=20
I am currently between aircraft but I even built a Pazmany PL4A once. =20

My family stayed in the area for 5 days as part of a multi-island trip
this
August. We stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel next door. Smaller and
cosier -
but hey your stay is free!
=20
We ate at the Ritz Carlton Banyan Tree restaurant - fabulous but with
fabulous prices to go with it. There are other good restaurants at the
combined Kapalua bay resort area particularly the Sansei Japanese one
in the
Mall next to the Kapaula Bay Hotel (restaurants at the KBH are average)
and
the Italian one nearer the resort entrance. The Sansei is reasonably
priced
by comparison with most of the others in the area.
=20
Lahaina, the nearest town (20 mins away), is very good with loads of
variety
food-wise and prices across all ranges.
=20
Things to do - apart from lying on the beach - I don't think we did
much
other than shopping in Lahaina for Jewelry and clothes. I tried to
find
somewhere to fly from (apart from Mercedes my other passion is flying)
but
the only aircraft rentals are at the main airport. So I passed on
flying in
Maui waiting for an opportunity in Kauai - no rental options at all
there!
=20
Anyway - enjoy your stay and expect the credit cards to take a
bashing!

Has anyone in the group been to the Ritz Carlton Resort-Kapalua on
Maui,
Hawaii? Also-if you have been to Maui, is there anything I must do or
see?
I won an all expenses paid trip to the Ritz and would appreciate any
suggestions. I can go almost anytime over the next few months.
Thanks in advance for any help and your consideration since this isn't
SEC
related.
