Ken
Pickup trucks are ok in the left lane (high speed lane). It's commercial
vehicles that are not allowed! Radar detectors in themselves are not
illegal in Massachusetts it's how they are displayed or mounted. If you
have one on your dash or windshield it is considered "Impeded Operation" a
$35.00 fine! They are illegal to use or display in a commercial vehicle!

"In Massachusetts, no trucks are allowed in the left hand high speed
lane." Does that include pickups? If so, I am glad to live out west.
Between that and the illegal radar detectors... What I can't understand
is that years ago the Supreme Court, in a case brought by the FCC, ruled
that any transmissions passing through your airspace belonged to you.
So how can they outlaw detectors? Jammers I can understand, but
detectors?

The situation has probably never been tried in the US Supreme Court.
Australia is similar, there is a
general principle that anyone can listen to any radio transmissions they
like "except police radar" which
has been legislated against by the states. No-one has brought the situation
before the High Court here
(equivalent of the US Supreme Court). If there is Federal legislation here
against radar detectors it
probably conflicts with telecommunication acts. In the US it may be
unconstitutional or conflict with the
Bill of Rights.

Have we any legal eagles?

Incidentally tracking down a welding system attached to a long electric
fence as an antenna is easy.
You need a much bigger antenna to disguise the origin of a transmission.
