Hi, Dick,
Having been a Radar group member for almost two years, I've learned that any given radar detector's ability to avoid a ticket is more dependant on the situ rather than the detector itself. Of course, the better the detector, the farther it gives an alert, and the lesser the false alarms. It seems the best is the V1, followed by the Escort Passport.
Insofar as avoiding a ticket, most of the time, if the alert is originated by the very beam/signal (be it radar or laser) aimed at your car, it's too late: you're clocked already! So, your only chance would be to catch the scattered beams/signals which have been aimed at traffic in front of you. With this early warning (which can be as much as 1-3 miles), you can adjust your speed and have already slowed down when your own beam meets your front grill/plate. On the other hand, the cops make the situation harder by being selective in shooting their radar guns, because they also know that the more the signal pollution, the less the tickets issued. So, they are getting trained to first decide visually whether the oncoming car is speeding or not, thus pull the trigger only if they think that there is a potential ticket. Our friend Mike Collins should be able to verify that, ... don't you Mike?

Thanks Bill and Richard.
I have not received a ticket and I generally don't go over 80 in the commute which seems to be the average speed for everyone. I have on occasion let her rip in the SEC on 95 North between Providence and 128 South of Boston.
Wonder how big the ticket would be or if there are any other ramifications if tagged at 100+ and if any detector would give you adequate notice at this speed???. Whatdayathink??
Dick
