The only way to tighten the shift linkage is to replace the (2) bushings I 
described in the 'contact Jonathan' post.  I would ask the list for a solid 
recommendation based on your place on the planet for an independent 
mechanic.  Unless you have deep pockets, a qualified independent MB tech is 
the way to go.

And you are most welcome.  I like you started out a few years back watching 
this and other lists and as you know knowledge is power.
