I just fitted an entire original MB cruise control system to my 300SE
(straight 6) last week.

Took the system out of a 92 300SE and dead easy to fit - took me under 3
hours. And that's on a 300SE, where the location of the actuator is a pain.
On a V8 SEC, it'll be even quicker.

The beauty of the MB system is that you can only fit things one way and in
the right place. Very difficult to get it wrong.

The main difference betweenthe 6-cyl W126 and V8's is the location of the
actuator. On the V8's, it's a doddle, as the actuator is located at the
front, on the right hand side, just next to the air filter snorkle.. On the
straight 6, it's located underneath the inlet manifold, just above the
starter motor. It bolts on to one the manifold support brackets - a bit of a
PITA to fit up there.

The other difference is the length of the loom going from the
amplifier/relay to the actuator - on the straight 6, it goes from the
amplifier (which is located in the drivers footwell, up against the brake
booster braket), throught the fuesbox (where one white wire connects to a
corresponding female plug and power from the relevant fuse for power) down
the right wing, underneath the radiator across the fron of the engine, up
the left side wing and upto the diagnostic port, where it connects to the
loom coming from the actuator. It basically runs with the headlamp wash wipe
loom which also goes from the fuesbox all the way down, across and back up
to the washer reservoir !

But other than that no real difference - from the main loom, there are two
other connections, in addition to the power and white loom mentioned above,
to make. One to the brake pedal swtich and one for Ground.

You of course need to remove the steering wheel, to fit the control switch.
IF you have an electric steering column, remember to pull the sruise control
switch from a car that also has a telescopic steering wheel, as the loom is
longer, for both indicator stalk and cruise stalk. You don't need the entire
indicator stalk assembly from the dodnor car, as the cruise stalk is
independant - it just slots into the existing indicator stalk housing.

I got the entire system from my breaker for 100 gbp. And it works an
absolute dream !!

The only tedious bits are bolting the amplifier up to the brake booster,
inside the drivers footwell, and pushing the loom through to the fusebox.
You'll need to remove the front end of the fusebox (the bit thru which all
the looms are threaded to go out of the fusebox etc, but that's
straightforward.
