[W126 Coupe] what's that engine part?

That's the timing chain tensioner. It uses oil pressure to push against
the timing chain and thereby take up slack. Is it leaking from the
gasket around its base? If so, it's probably an easy fix, assuming you
can get a new gasket.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] what's that engine part?

Hi all,

I've always been told there is no such thing as a dumb question.... well
this probably is one. Located just above the oil filter canister there
is a large "hex" cap attached with two screws on the side of the block.
It appears that there is oil leaking from this.... thing. Can someone
please tell me what it is?

Additionally, is changing the rear rotors fairly strait forward, or are
there some tricks I should be aware of? Is there any special tools
required for the job? Should I replace the bearings or re-pack the old
ones while the rotors off?

Thanks in advance,
