Well, the thing I've heard with synthetics is they are great, unless
with conventional oil you have a leak. I.E. synthetic won't leak unless
you have a leak with conventional as well, and if you have leak with
conventional, it will get worse with synthetic. Anyways though, perhaps
I wasn't clear. By high mileage oil I mean things like Valvoline
MaxLife, Castrol GTX High Mileage, Quaker High Mileage, mobil has one,
everybody's joined the party pretty much. They always say they are for
cars over 75,000 miles. They are just conventional oils (well, there is
one synthetic one) with more seal swellers.
Of course, a mechanic friend (albeit Ford) says that while he has heard
people say high mileage oils create dependency, he's never seen it and
doesn't believe it. Speaking of my mechanic friend, he didn't know who
Pat Goss is, so perhaps I should explain here too. He has a weekly
column in The Washington Post and a radio show and a TV show in the DC
area, and he makes frequent appearances on the PBS show Motorweek.

I have been told that "old" mb's that started out with old school oil,
should never be changed over to mobile 1. Like opening new can of worms,
and leaks... I am sure this will be a chime session. Do chime.
