[W126 Coupe] paint question

I had mine painted a year ago, and between the painter and myself, took off
EVERYTHING from the body that could be easily removed. Bumpers, door
cladding, headlights, taillights, door handles, radio antenna, etc. etc. All
that was left on the car was the chrome/SS trim around the front and rear
windows and the strip over the doors. I mean EVERYTHING else was removed.
The result was marvelous. The painter knew I was completely around the bend
on the car and added extra clear to the paint job.

One other major suggestion. Do NOT use a Mercedes color for the paint job. I
found that Chrysler Bright Silver is amazingly close to MB Bright Silver and
that is what was used on mine. That allows me to go to the local parts store
and buy a spray can or touch up bottle of "my" color. I didn't do this
because it was cheaper (which it was) but because I wanted a spray can of
paint without having to hope that MB would supply one. The Duplicolor bright
silver seems to be an exact match to the PPG Chrysler PS-2 on the car.

Find a color that is very close to the MB color, and go for it. I did the
entire roof of a '79 300SD with duplicolor spray cans and it turned out
great - the shiniest part of the car. Your results may vary...... :-)

I'd show you a picture of my SEC but Tummala isn't putting anyone into
Members Cars any more.

Thanks,
