To complicate the issue further:

Suppose I were to say that I have now corrected the cooked version of the
Haunted Chess SPG by Mestel & Comay, and that I would send it to any
individual from this list who asks for it - would that count as
publication? I suspect not.

And suppose, instead of actually saying it, I were to use it as a
hypothetical example in a discussion about publication....
