For the white king the following statements hold:

in a dual-free SPG the white king
- can be mated on any 8th-rank square in just 16 single moves
- can be mated on any 7th-rank square with the exception of d7
  in just 14 single moves

most of the mates can even be realized in captureless games.

As an example:

White King on f7:

1.d2-d4 d7-d6 2.Ke1-d2 Qd8-d7 3.Kd2-e3 Qd7-c6 4.Ke3-f4 Nb8-d7 
5.Kf4-f5 f7-f6 6.Kf5-e6 Ke8-d8 7.Ke6-f7 Qc6-d5#
