Hi Folks,
Thanks to Mario for all his work.
Using some freeware (Fancy) and a spreadsheet program I have put together
(which I have named Schmancy haha), I have thrown all the Type A-D problems
together onto my website.
Look for the bits labelled NEW on www.geocities.com/anselan/chess.html.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Subject: [Retros] Last move Type D - record list 03.03.2007
Dear retrofans,
below is the current list of records for Lastmovers Type D.
Some premilary remarks:
To keep the list a little bit shorter, the following
abbreviations are used:
rml = Retros Mailing List,
fs 64 = feenschach, Heft 64/1983, p.29ff
rcv: <date> = the date, on which I received problems which were
communicated to me via private email
Note, that the last move combinations are normalized for
ordering purposes, i.e. even if White's last move was e.g.
NxR, and Black's last move was K-, this is not listed as
'NxR/K-', but as 'K-/NxR', the order used is K>Q>R>B>N>P
and '-' > 'x'.
Some comments on new entries:
Please notice, that - surprisingly - Werner Keym has managed
to construct a Type D problem with queenside castling.
With their PxN=B/PxN=B postion, Roberto & Jorge have provided
a special record:
Both Theodore Hwa's 'retractor' program as well as my own
retro program think, that both sides have 20 legal last moves.
So the difference between the number of legal retractions and
the number of retractions as computed by a retro program in this
case is 38. (This difference can be used as an indicator of
the depth of retro-analytical content of a problem ...)
Andrew has given an example (given here separately), which shows,
that the Dead Reckoning Logic can be applied to Type D problems
too:

Furthermore, Andrew has established a website, where you can find
the record list including diagrams of the positions:
http://www.geocities.com/anselan/TypeD/TypeD.html
Now the current list. We now have:
60 records (out of 1770 theoretically possible)
21 records with both last moves of the same nature (out of 59
theor.possible)
21 records with 12 or less pieces
As last week, my invitation: In all categories there is still
much room for new records as well as improvements of existing
ones - so please contribute!
(It would be really nice to have at least a complete list of
'same nature last move problems ...)
